Memory Foam Dog Beds
Why would your dog need a bed made from special foam? Isn’t he just as comfortable with a blanket on the ground? As you may have already heard, older dogs can benefit from the advantages of memory foam dog beds and their orthopedic support if they develop arthritis and joint pain from middle age onwards.
This is especially likely to happen if they become overweight, and if this is the case, besides changing his bed you may consider putting him on a low fat diet and taking him to see the veterinarian twice a year instead of once, just to keep an eye on things.
What you may not have realized, however, is that memory foam dog beds are recommended for all ages of dogs, particularly larger breeds which can suffer from hip dysplasia in middle to old age. Veterinarians say that your dog may not show symptoms of this crippling disease until middle age, so the sooner you provide your dog with some comfort, the better.
Memory foam was invented by NASA and it combines tiny air pockets with foam to mold to the shape of whatever happens to be lying on it. This means that your dog’s head and legs get just the same support as his middle and back. The even support that memory foam provides eliminates painful pressure points and adds considerably to your dog’s comfort. If you’re starting to think that your dog might be getting spoiled, I’ll tell you now that memory foam mattresses are also available for humans under several brand names.
You can buy memory foam dog beds at pet stores and online but they can range in price from $60 for a smaller version right up to $200 and more for larger more luxurious versions, so it’s worth shopping around. Don’t forget to purchase a washable cover for your dog’s bed, since foam and dog hairs, once joined together, are extremely difficult to separate.
So go on, give your dog the luxury he deserves – at least then you might be able to re-claim your couch for yourself!
